On May 8, 2008, residents of Rock Town, Harper District and Wechuken, Pleebo/Sodokeh District engaged in a battle over land disputes resulting
in the loss of two lives.

We the members of National Maryland County Association, Liberia - USA, Inc. (NAMCAL) condemn the recent crisis between the citizens of Rocktown, Harper district and Wetchuken, Pleebo/Sodeken district which resulted in violence and the lost of 2 precious lives.

We, Marylanders in the Diaspora, wish to extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and pray for God's comfort, peace and unity amongst our people.

 We express our gratitude to UNMIL for their presence and support to the local government. We also thank the members of the Maryland Legislative Caucus for their timely intervention and the Government of Liberia for dispatching a team of investigators Maryland County to commence a thorough investigation. We pray that at the conclusion of this investigation, appropriate legislation will be immediately drafted to resolve the land dispute in order to avoid further conflicts amongst the citizens of Maryland County.
